Prism Cement, a Rajan Raheja group company, has set a target of excess of 10 million tonne per annum capacity by 2014. The company would also set up a greenfield unit at Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. With the commissioning of its brown field unit of 3.6 million tonne per capacity recently, the company’s total installed capacity has gone up to 5.6 million tonne per annum. The greenfield expansion is expected to be completed by 2014 with capacity addition of 4.8 million tonne per annum. Though the project was announced in 2007 the company went slow on its implementation, partly due to global slowdown in 2008 and partly due to excess capacity in the industry. The company has also been allotted a coal block at Chindwara, MP, which is expected to be commissioned in FY2012-13 and will supply to the plant facility at Satna. This is likely to help the company to improve its margins. Currently the new unit depends entirely on open market coal which is nearly 40 per cent more expensive than linkage coal.

Consumption by data centres is expected to grow from 247,000 tonnes in 2025 to 860,000 tonnes by 2027. With over 5,400 AI data centres currently operating and numbers forecast to exceed 6,000 by 2027, the association cautions that regulatory hurdles and labour shortages may impact the industry’s ability to meet demand.
