Turkey exported a total of 23 MT of cement and clinker in 2019, a year-on-year increase of 68 per cent, according to Dr Tamer Saka, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association (T?MB). The value of the country’s cement and clinker exports was $877 million, a 44 per cent increase. The discrepancy between volume and value growth rates indicates that Turkish exporters are sold at lower prices in 2019 than in 2018 on average. The nation’s cement is transported to more than 100 countries in 2019, with the most important recipients listed as the US, Israel, Ghana and Ivory Coast."

Speaking upon the occasion of T?MB’s General Assembly meeting on 17 February 2020, at which he was re-elected as Chairman, Dr Saka said, "In January 2020, cement exports increased by 81 per cent to reach 1.1 MT and clinker exports grew by 29 per cent to reach 1.3 MT. Our forecast is that the Turkish cement sector will grow by approximately 2 per cent in domestic sales and 15 per cent in exports this year." In the Board of Directors of Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association (T?MB) where Dr. Tamer Saka acts as the Chairman of the Board, Adil Sani Konukoglu became the Deputy Chairman and Nihat ?zdemir, Ali Pastonoglu, G?khan Bozkurt, and Fatih Yncelik were appointed as Vice Chairmen.

TotalEnergies and Holcim have commissioned a floating solar power plant in Obourg, Belgium, built on a rehabilitated former chalk quarry that has been converted into a lake. The project has a generation capacity of 31 MW and produces around 30 GWh of renewable electricity annually, which will be used to power Holcim’s nearby industrial operations. The project is currently the largest floating solar installation in Europe dedicated entirely to industrial self-consumption. To ensure minimal impact on the surrounding landscape, more than 700 metres of horizontal directional drilling were used to connect the solar installation to the electrical substation. The project reflects ongoing collaboration between the two companies to support industrial decarbonisation through renewable energy solutions and innovative infrastructure development.
