German cement major HeidelbergCement invested
$14 million to set up a new cement mill with a capacity of 0.5 million tonne per annum at its cement grinding plant in Monrovia, Liberia.
The company recently commissioned the new cement mill, through its Liberian subsidiary Cemenco.
Cemenco, which is the only cement producer in Liberia with a strong market position, is part of HeidelbergCement’s network of cement grinding facilities
on the West African coast.
HeidelbergCement is in the process of modernising and expanding its clinker and cement capacities in emerging markets. The construction of the new cement mill in Liberia is part of this strategy.
The new mill in Liberia, together with the firm’s existing plants in this region, strengthens its coastal network in West Africa.
The company feels that the sub-Saharan Africa market has a very high growth potential owing to their early stage of industrialisation.
Meanwhile, the firm raised the cement grinding capacity at its Tema cement plant in Ghana and it is currently building a new cement mill in Takoradi.
