Zambezi Portland Cement (ZPC) Ltd will construct a cement manufacturing plant in Lusaka’s Chilanga area at a cost of $120 million. This plant will have a production capacity of 2,000 tonne per day, and is expected to create over 500 jobs. "We have reached the final stages of feasibility study to set up a brand new cement plant in Lusaka to be located in Chilanga area," said Antonio Ventriglia, Managing Director. The company is expected to spend $120 million for its second cement manufacturing plant from the Ndola facility that started its production activities in 2009. Ventriglia said the plan to set up a cement plant in Lusaka is to enhance distribution of ZPC’s products to the southern region. Ventriglia cited the construction works at Kafue gorge and plan to set up a stadium in Lusaka as some of the big investments that were taking place in the area. The housing initiative policy by the government was another project taking place in the construction sector. "The demand for cement is so high?there is laterally no competition in the sector," he said. High demand for the commodity is a result of increased construction works in various developmental projects in the country. "Increased construction works across the country are a result of good investment policies by President Banda and his administration. The country has recorded various investments in different sectors of the economy that have resulted in to the creation of employment for the youth. "President Banda deserves another term in office for accelerated national development," he added.

TotalEnergies and Holcim have commissioned a floating solar power plant in Obourg, Belgium, built on a rehabilitated former chalk quarry that has been converted into a lake. The project has a generation capacity of 31 MW and produces around 30 GWh of renewable electricity annually, which will be used to power Holcim’s nearby industrial operations. The project is currently the largest floating solar installation in Europe dedicated entirely to industrial self-consumption. To ensure minimal impact on the surrounding landscape, more than 700 metres of horizontal directional drilling were used to connect the solar installation to the electrical substation. The project reflects ongoing collaboration between the two companies to support industrial decarbonisation through renewable energy solutions and innovative infrastructure development.
