The Union government’s Jal Jeevan Mission has fulfilled piped water dream of Palli villagers, prompting the residents to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supplying water connections to every household in their region.On Sunday, Officials said that nestled in the wheat fields on the right side of the Jammu and Punjab national highway, the mood in the village was lively when the PM was in their locality to address representatives of the Panchayati Raj Institutions across the nation.Sarpanch of Palli Panchayat Randhir Sharma expressed gratitude to PM Modi.Officials said that under the Jal Jeevan Mission launched by the PM in 2019, Palli village of Samba has been fully saturated with 448 Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) for Rs 143.40 lakh.The Palli village water supply project also incorporated a tube well of 6000 Gallons of discharge capacity per hour.A senior engineer of the J&K Jal Shakti Department told the media that the authority has also created the sump tank as part of the scheme, which has a capacity of 30,000 gallons. The water will be stored in a 30,000-gallon capacity sump tank which will suffice the water needs of Palli village.The Prime Minister launched the Jal Jeevan scheme on August 15, 2019, to supply piped water to all households in the country in the forthcoming years.The Prime Minister set the target of covering all households in rural areas by 2024.However, Jammu and Kashmir set the target of achieving tap water connections to all households by 2022.The J&K has already achieved the target of supplying tap water to all 22,422 schools and 23,926 Anganwadi centres in the union territory before time.According to official figures, 4,86,000 households have been equipped with functional tap water connections in the union territory since the scheme launched.J&K Jal Shakti Department has also opened 97 water quality testing laboratories across the UT for the public to test water samples at a nominal rate to provide a potable drinking water supply.Image Source

CCU testbeds in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu is set to host one of India’s five national carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) testbeds, aimed at reducing CO2 emissions in the cement industry as part of the country’s 2070 net-zero goal, as per a news report. The facility will be based at UltraTech Cement’s Reddipalayam plant in Ariyalur, supported by IIT Madras and BITS Pilani. Backed by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the project will pilot an oxygen-enriched kiln capable of capturing up to two tonnes of CO2 per day for conversion into concrete products. Additional testbeds are planned in Rajasthan, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh, involving companies like JK Cement and Dalmia Cement. Union Minister Jitendra Singh confirmed that funding approvals are underway, with full implementation expected in 2025.

JSW Cement gears up for IPO

JSW Cement has set the price range for its upcoming initial public offering(IPO) at US$1.58 to US$1.67 per share, aiming to raise approximately US$409 million. As reported in the news, around US$91 million from the proceeds will be directed towards partially financing a new integrated cement plant in Nagaur, Rajasthan. Additionally, the company plans to utilise US$59.2 million to repay or prepay existing debts. The remaining capital will be allocated for general corporate purposes.

Cement industry to gain from new infrastructure spending

As per a news report, Karan Adani, ACC Chair, has said that he expects the cement industry to benefit from the an anticipated US$2.2tn in new public infrastructure spending between 2025 and 2030. In a statement he said that ACC has crossed the 100Mt/yr cement capacity milestone in April 2025, propelling the company to get closer to its ambitious 140Mt/yr target by the 2028 financial year. The company’s capacity corresponds to 15 per cent of an all-India installed capacity of 686Mt/yr.
