The company prefers to grow organically and proposes to set up a 30 MW thermal power project to overcome power crisis and also plans to set up few more RMC units in future, says K Ravi, Managing Director, NCL Industries.NCL Industries manufactures OPC and PPC in its plants. What is the annual installed capacity and the annual capacity utilization of your plants. What is the installed capacity you are targeting at in the next two years?NCL Industries manufactures various types/grades of cement in plants located at Mattapally in Nalgonda district and Kondapalli in Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh. These include OPC, PPC and special cement required for railway sleepers. The installed capacity of our plants is 2 million tonnes per annum and last year we have operated at a level of 60 per cent. In the next two years it is likely to reach a level of over 80 per cent.Apart from this, the company also manufactures cement bonded particle boards under the brand name ‘Bison Panel’, prefabricated structures and Ready Mix Concrete. The company is also having two small hydro projects having a combined capacity to generate 15.75 MW of power per annum.Could you elaborate on the latest technologies used at your cement plant? What kind of quality control checks and systems has your company put in place to maintain quality of cement produced?
NCL Industries is always on the look out for adopting modern technologies in their processing units. Recent capacity expansion was completely done using latest technological improvements like vertical roller mills for raw materials and fuel grinding, online sampling equipment, stack monitoring and gas analyzers, RAB1H for preventing dust emission. Latest pendulum no spillage clinker cooler is installed for better heat recuperation. A well equipped laboratory is established with X-ray analyzer and sample preparation equipment where the product i.e., cement is analyzed from first stage of manufacturing to finishing stage i.e., at every intermittent level to maintain consistent quality and standards. At present, NCL Industries in their cement division is producing different grades of cement like 43 grade, 53 grade, 53 grade S for railways and PPC.NCL Industries has adopted their standards at higher levels for all the products being manufactured i.e., cement, cement bound particle boards and ready mix concrete batching. The old plant, i.e., 1800 TPD Line-1 is being upgraded for better operational efficiency by installing RABH in place of electro static precipitators. Already, pyro system is upgraded with in line calciner, multi-fuel and multi-channel burners.Apart from cement, your company also manufactures ready mix concrete (RMC). How many batching plants and transit mixers do you have and where are these batching plants located?
At present NCL is having two units located at Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam 18 transit mixtures and four concrete lifting pumps located at the above units.Your operations are concentrated in Southern region, especially in coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. Are there any plans to expand to other regions of India as well?
Our cement and boards marketing operations are widely operated in India. NCL cement boards dealers network is on an all-India basis and second boards unit located in the state of Himachal Pradesh. In the case of cement, our products are sold in Maharastra, Kerala, Karnataka, Orissa and Tamil Nadu.Apart from growing organically, are you looking at inorganic growth? If yes, which companies are you looking at for takeover?We are growing organically and are not looking for any takeovers.How has been the financial performance of the company during 2011-12? How is the company doing in FY2012-13?The financial performance of the company during 2011-12 was excellent. During the last year, the company had achieved highest ever sales and profits viz. more than Rs 750 crore of turnover and Rs 44 crore of profit. During the current year there is a slowdown in the construction activity, particularly in the state of Andhra Pradesh due to acute power shortage and sand problem.What are the future plans of NCL in cement and RMC and how do you propose to implement them?
The company proposes to set up a 30 MW thermal power project to overcome power crisis and also plans to set up few more RMC units in future.

Cement industry to gain from new infrastructure spending

As per a news report, Karan Adani, ACC Chair, has said that he expects the cement industry to benefit from the an anticipated US$2.2tn in new public infrastructure spending between 2025 and 2030. In a statement he said that ACC has crossed the 100Mt/yr cement capacity milestone in April 2025, propelling the company to get closer to its ambitious 140Mt/yr target by the 2028 financial year. The company’s capacity corresponds to 15 per cent of an all-India installed capacity of 686Mt/yr.

AI boom drives demand, says ACA

The American Cement Association projects a nearly 1Mt annual increase in US cement demand over the next three years, driven by the surge in AI data centres. Consumption by data centres is expected to grow from 247,000 tonnes in 2025 to 860,000 tonnes by 2027. With over 5,400 AI data centres currently operating and numbers forecast to exceed 6,000 by 2027, the association cautions that regulatory hurdles and labour shortages may impact the industry’s ability to meet demand.

GoldCrest Cement to build plant in India

GoldCrest Cement will build a greenfield integrated plant with a 3.5Mt/yr clinker capacity and 4.5Mt/yr cement capacity. GoldCrest Cement appointed Humboldt Wedag India as engineering, procurement and construction contractor in March 2025 and targets completion by March 2027. It has signed a 40-year supply agreement with Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation for 150Mt of limestone from its upcoming Lakhpat Punrajpur mine in Gujarat.
