Ambuja Cements and ACC have become the first leading Indian cement companies to receive validation of their near-term (2030) and net-zero (2050) emission targets from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This milestone aligns them with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C goal and India’s commitment to net-zero by 2070. As two of the largest cement manufacturers globally, they now join the ranks of Cemex, Heidelberg, and Holcim with this validation. The companies will focus on direct decarbonisation and neutralising residual emissions through renewable energy, waste heat recovery, alternative fuels, and green hydrogen.
Synergies within the Adani Group—such as scaling renewable capacity to 50 GW by 2030—will accelerate their low-carbon transition. Ambuja, a member of IRENA’s AFID and WEF’s industrial decarbonisation initiatives, is also targeting 60 per cent green energy usage by FY28. This validation marks a turning point, proving that bold climate leadership in cement is not only possible but essential.
