Ambuja Cements has become the world’s first cement company to join the Alliance for Industry Decarbonisation (AFID), a global platform dedicated to accelerating Net Zero transitions. As part of the Adani Portfolio, Ambuja aims to achieve Net Zero by 2050, with Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validation. The company plans to invest Rs.100 billion in renewable energy projects, including 1GW of green energy and 376 MW from Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHRS), aiming to power 60 per cent of its operations with green energy by FY2028. This move strengthens Ambuja’s sustainability efforts, which include utilising 8.6 million tonnes of waste-derived resources and becoming 11x water-positive and 8x plastic-negative in FY2024. Joining AFID will enable Ambuja to collaborate with global peers on decarbonisation strategies.
