TESPL was first company which spearheaded the use of ORC plants for the cement industry, and supplementary coal firing for enhancing power output, says Pankaj Raj, Vice-president- Sales & Marketing, Transparent Energy Systems and Mahendra Patil, Vice-president – Sales & Marketing, Tranparent Technologies. Excerpts from the interview.

What are the main products offered by your company?

TESPL and TTPL offer products pertaining to the energy and water conservation , which include co-generation systems, waste heat recovery based systems and power plants, pond ash / fly ash dryer, flue gas desulphurisation plants, energy efficient bag filters (co-flow patented design) and alternate fuel systems, water recycling plants, superefficient boilers and heaters, pollution control equipments, coal drying plants, ammonia absorption refrigeration plants (AARP),etc.

Would you brief us about your manufacturing facility?

We have three manufacturing facilities which are located in the surroundings of Pune. All three manufacturing units of TESPL are ISO 9001:2008 certified by TUV NORD and are approved boiler and pressure parts manufacturing units, as per Indian Boiler Regulation 1950. These facilities hold S, U, U2, R, HP0, DIN EN ISO 3834 certifications. The total annual production capacity is 10000 MT approximately. There are no limitations however, as also excellent proven sub-vendors which are subcontracted for manufacturing with quality control by us.

How much is the capital investment required and how much savings can be expected from a WHR system?

The capital investment varies from Rs 3 crore for a small plant to Rs 200 crore for a large WHR system. The WHR system pays for itself within three to five years. The service life of WHR systems is 25 years. The benefits on life-cycles based on the life of the plant, are increasing and will not come down in view of the rising fuel and power prices.

Are there any new developments in WHR designs?

There have been many innovations like the organic, rankine cycle based power plant and many innovative concepts like multiple recycling of heat in clinker cooler, utilising heat for absorption refrigeration, effluent recycling and dryers.

Name some of your landmark projects.

TESPL was the first company that spear-headed ORC plant for cement industry. TESPL is also exploring number of projects in Middle East and Europe. TTPL was first to install flue gas desulphurisation system (wet limestone based gypsum generation process) and pond ash dryer in cement plants.

Is there a trend change in the type of systems demanded by the industry?

Originally, EPC was executing projects where customers faced serious issues. Now customers go for client purchase in individual block packages with engineering from respective OEMs for executing WHR projects.

Organic rankine cycle systems have picked up in the market, too, along with options like of district heating.
