Dalmia will be setting a cement plant in Belgaum, Karnataka by March 2014. The plant will create more than 1,000 jobs in the area. Having a strong presence in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the company plans to expand its reach up to Karnataka.
The Belgaum plant will have a production capacity of 25 lakh tonnes per year. The group has invested Rs 1,300 crore on this project. Karnataka is a key state for the company and the group aims to break into the market primarily dominated by Ultratech, Zuari and ACC.
‘Though we have had a good presence in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Karnataka has not been a great market for us so far. We have to address this state seriously by ramping up our presence here,’ said CEO Vipin Agarwal. The company has projected that this will increase its 5 per cent market share to double digits in a few months time.
