Chhattisgarh demands additional levy on coal from Centre

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has demanded of the Centre to sanction additional levy on coal extracted from coal mines of Chhattisgarh as soon as possible. As per the Chhattisgarh Government’s estimate additional levy will be to the tune of Rs 4140.21 crore.

Chief Minister has written a letter to Union Minister for Mines and Coal Prahlad Joshi and has said that according to the provisions of Indian Constitution, Mineral Act and the orders issued by the Supreme Court in the context, the state government is entitled to the ownership of minerals, and to recover royalty, levy and other taxes. CM has requested sanction of additional levy as soon as possible, in interest of Chhattisgarh.
