Emami Cement has commissioned a cement grinding unit in district Burdwan, West Bengal. The 2 million tonnes/year (t/y) grinding plant cost Rs 5 billion and was commissioned in 13 months, the company said. The plant forms part of a project by Emami to expand its cement operations, including a 5.5 million t/y integrated cement plant in Chhattisgarh and another 1.8 million t/y grinding unit in Odisha.
The Chhattisgarh plant began operations in July last year. The company also operates a limestone quarry at Guntur in Andhra Pradesh.
Last year, the company said that it aimed to become a major player in the already crowded industry.
"We are bullish on the cement business, which will help boost both our topline and bottomline," Aditya Agarwal, Director, Emami Group, told reporters in October 2016. "We aim to be among the top three players in the cement industry."
The Panagarh unit will produce ordinary Portland cement, Portland Pozzolana cement, and Portland slag cement
