Terming the right to have roads in reasonable condition as fundamental for every citizen, the Bombay High Court has directed the municipal corporations in the region to maintain all roads and footpaths in ?good and proper? condition. Furthermore, all corporations, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and Mumbai Port Trust (MPT) have been told to provide four methods (written, toll free numbers, websites, text messages) for citizens to file complaints about poor road conditions and track the action being taken on the basis of the complaints received.The court had taken suo moto cognizance of a PIL regarding the conditions of roads in Mumbai. The court has sought compliance of their directions by June 30.
