The Jammu and Kashmir Government is setting up a cement plant with a capacity of 300 tonne per day (tpd) in Samba district of the state. Jammu and Kashmir Cements Ltd under its expansion plan has decided to open 300 tpd capacity plant at Samba and the establishment of the proposed plant, estimated to cost around Rs 26.96 crore, was approved at the 94th Board of Directors’ meeting chaired by the Minister for Industries and Commerce SS Salathia. The Board of Directors after a threadbare discussion on the plan proposal of the plant accorded approval, and asked the Managing Director to come up with proposal of financial closure. In the meeting, report from consultants MS Ercon was tabled and the project is likely to be completed in 16 months. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister, who is also the Chairman of the Board, asked the management to work with more vigour to achieve the targets set for the current year. He stressed for better planning and quality production for attaining financial stability of the company. He also suggested cutting the company’s overheads for better financial management.
