A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court, upholding an earlier Single Bench verdict dismissing the plea by a group of Kochi Port land leasees against their eviction, is set to speed up Malabar Cements´ project to set up a logistics hub on the port land. The Port Trust has allotted 6.9 acre on the Willingdon Island for the logistics hub project, which has been on the anvil for about two years now.
The court observed that the lease period had expired and that their lease had not been renewed in 1997. Sources in the public sector Malabar Cements said that the company planned to invest about Rs 160 crore in the cement logistics hub. The proposed facilities include handling machinery for imported clinker and white cement.
