Taking a step further from traditional bulkers, Meher Hermanns has now brought into market Movable Silos, which can be left behind at the customer sites. This will be a game changer in Cement logistics converting more bags to bulk.
Bulk users of cement are always looking for better and efficient cement management solutions. Since a few years, pressurised bulkers are used for making deliveries to large sites and ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants, having cement silos for storage. Such sites use cement efficiently and have very little labour costs. No bags. No dusting. Environment friendly and clean plants.
But all construction sites do not have silos. The revolutionary ´Movable silos´ is a new cement delivery solution, which delivers all benefits of bulk at no cost to clients. They do not have to spend anything for making silos, etc. at site. No infrastructure required at sites, No Silos, No Compressors, No Godowns, No power.
Cement companies will deliver cement in these movable silos and keep on replenishing as and when required. Thereby eliminating the ´bag-labour-godown´ requirements completely. Cement is delivered fresh and consumed within a short time, thereby giving superior strength and better quality of construction.
Delivering cement in movable silos is also a ´Swatch Bharat´ initiative! Construction sites are usually grappling with space constraints and with labour, which is also now becoming a growing challenge. Mechanisation and optimum usage of space are the only ways to complete the project in time. Movable silos are a good and reliable solution to help overcome these challenges; and emerge as a cost-effective alternative to the current work practices. Imagine placing the movable silos close to where you wish to use cement that day. This would completely eliminate the, internal movement from cement godown to site and will result in a big saving, besides increasing efficiency at site.
The cement industry in India is still delivering more than 85 per cent in 50 kg bags. But since the last few years, now since that the infrastructure projects have started picking up, there is a real need to complete the project as quick as possible. This demands efficiency at work site and more work to be done per day. It is practically not possible to handle so many bags each day; and hence; movable silos are a good option.
Cement companies can save their valuable capex and need not invest in new packers in the future, if they are able to shift more clients to loose bulk in movable silos. Movable silos are nothing but 16 tonne steel re-usable bags having a life of several years. RMC plants at customer sit es need not erect storage Silos as they can demand cement & fly ash, micro silica and other additives, all in movable silos, thereby giving them savings of several lakh usually spent on erecting storage silos at customer sites. No foundation, no special flooring , just well compacted soil is fine.
After bringing the cement-filled movable silo to site, it will be erected at the site by special hydraulic lift installed on the truck. There is no need of any crane or hydra or any other device. The silo will remain at the site till the cement is completely used. These are free-fall silos and cement will flow down with gravity alone. No power, no motor. Once the cement is consumed, the cement company will send a new truck with filled silo which comes, erects the new filled silo and take back the empty silo. The silos come in various capacities of 5-30 tonne. So it´s a win-win situation for all the stakeholders.
Benefit to cement company
Quick dispatches from plants & grinding Units, and better capacity utilisation. The whole process is environment-friendly and very safe. Cement companies will have great advantage as their carbon footprint will improve because of the power saving by not using bagging machine. Another advantage is that there is no pollution and a good working environment for people, which is a corporate social responsibility. There will be no spillages and no wastage. The plant will become less accident prone because of less people, less machine, etc. are involved.
Benefit to transporter
The transporter is the second element of this logistics chain. With one truck, they can handle many mini silos. Thus the transporter´s output per truck goes up. The transporter does not have to wait for loading, unloading points, so the number of trips goes up. Now even in the night, or very early morning, the truck can deliver and erect the silo. In such a delivery system, the transporter can employ 2-3 drivers a day on 8 hour duty round the clock, because the transporter has to only go, leave the filled silo, pick the empty Silo and come back. So, at the end of the month, the revenue generated per vehicle goes up tremendously, which is the bottom line for him.
Benefit to construction company
The construction company only have to give a place for the silo, and their savings are huge. Normally, cement bags are stored in the godown and moved to the point of consumption either by people or by elevators or cranes, etc. From mini silos, one can directly pump it to 30-40 floors and even higher by pumping again. First-in-first-out will now bring better quality in construction. Usually we order more bags of cement when the earlier is about to be finished. So, once the new lot comes in, the bags down below do not get used and overtime will become non-usable. This is wastage and also decreases the quality of construction. This is completely eliminated by the new system. One will get pollution-free environment.
Industry usually associates a cost of Rs 12-15 per bag of 50 kg cement. This can be completely saved. For a conversion of 10,000 tonne per month into movable silos, the savings are in the range of Rs 3 crore per year.
