The Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI) organised the Third National Sustainability Awards on cement and ready-mix concrete and ACC was recognised with five prestigious awards for their Sindri Cement works, Thondebhavi plant and Jamul Cement works plants. These achievements highlight ACC’s commitment to promoting sustainable practices within the industry.
The Sindri plant in Jharkhand received two notable awards for ‘Environmental Excellence’ and ‘Energy Efficiency’. The plant achieved substantial reduction in energy consumption to 37.5 kWh/tonne, much lower than the industry average and adopted CNG as a fuel to showcase its dedication to environmental responsibility.
The Thondebhavi plant in Karnataka received awards for ‘Environmental Excellence’ and ‘Safety Excellence’
for its commitment to sustainable practices. The plant achieved an impressive 50 per cent usage of solar power and reduced electrical energy consumption from conventional non-renewable sources, with a significant increase in the utilisation of fly ash in PPC, reaching up to 34 per cent.
The Jamul plant in Chhattisgarh was recognised for its initiatives to reduce carbon footprints with the ‘Environmental Excellence’ Award. These initiatives include the installation of waste
heat recovery systems and the utilisation of 100 per cent harvested rainwater
for operations.
