The Chandrapur limestone mine in Maharashtra has been awarded to Shree Cement through an auction. The mine has 50 Mt of limestone deposits and is set up to supply the raw materials needed for a 1.5 Mt/yr integrated cement plant. 200 kilometres from Nagpur, the mine is located on a 105 hectare site near the railheads for Chandrapur and Warora. According to reports, Shree Cement would look into constructing new sidings to link the quarry to the national rail system. Shree Cement offered to pay mining royalties in addition to taxes equal to 27 per cent of the cost of the limestone that was taken from the quarry. Limestone for cement was priced locally at $5.76 per t in May 2023.
