The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) plans to tar eight roads that were chosen for cement concretisation under Phase-I but were unable to be finished since the contractor, Unity Infraprojects, abandoned the project midway.

Before the January 19 standing committee meeting, NMC’s project department filed an Rs19 crore proposal for asphalting eight roads. The majority of these tar roads are in disrepair since the NMC did not carry out maintenance work, even though they were all chosen for conversion to cement roads under Phase-I. NMC commissioned Unity Infraprojects Limited in January 2015 to convert 30 tar roads (26.26km) to cement concrete in 24 months. The project’s cost was initially established at Rs107.02 crore but was raised in February 2019 to Rs126.57 crore.

The roads under consideration include Medical College Square to Krida Chowk to Umred Road, Park Road, South Ambazari Road to North Ambazari Road and Ram Nagar Chowk to Laxmi Bhuvan Square to VIP Road, amongst others.
