Geocycle, Ambuja Cements Limited and ACC Limited’s in-house waste management arm, has received the coveted CII 3R Award in the area of ‘Excellence in Managing Municipal Solid Waste.’ It has been working on a number of initiatives around the country to collect and co-process segregated municipal solid waste and plastic waste.
Geocycle was honoured for its numerous interventions to promote long-term waste management solutions for diverse businesses, municipalities, the agricultural sector, and local communities. Ambuja Cement and ACC, through Geocycle, have diverted over 2 million tonnes of trash from landfills by co-processing it in cement kilns by 2021.
Throughout the year, Geocycle collaborated with the Agra Municipal Corporation on the ‘Bubble Barrier’ pilot project to collect garbage from the Mantola Canal in Agra. It has successfully stopped 500 tonnes of plastic debris from entering the Yamuna River since then. The resulting plastic trash is collected and co-processed for use in the cement kilns of Ambuja Cement and ACC.
Ambuja Cement’s factory at Ambuja Nagar, Gujarat, also co-processes solid and liquid waste. Geocycle India aids in the management of municipal trash from legacy dumps in states such as Goa, Chennai, Nagpur, Bilaspur, Vishakhapatnam, and others.
