Almost 50 per cent of the premature bearing failures can be attributed to the faulty methods of fitting. When a new bearing fails quickly after installation, chances are that although the bearing itself was fine, its life expectancy was cut short due to improper installation procedures. Life expectancy of the bearing can be increased several times by correct fitting methods. The correct method is to heat the bearing before shrink fitting.
Heating by blow torches tends to overheat and spoil the bearing. Heating in oil bath is a slow process and can cause contamination and loss of prelubrication. It is also environmental and safety hazard. Direct electrical heaters have problems of energy loses and uneven heating.
