SK Jain, Proprietor, Sunnansh Cement
From the last three years, we have been exclusive cement dealers for Binani Cement. At our location in Noida, the sale of cement is not as much due to less demand. Hence, having only a single brand is better. It only makes sense to have multiple brands if your sale volume is around 50,000 bags a month. This is a good model for us as we don´t stock any product and dispatch it directly to the client. Besides, we also get good incentives, quarterly benefits, Diwali benefits, and many other perks. This exclusive model suits our dealership. At Sunnansh, we sell products only on´cash-and-carry´ basis. We don´t even provide credit even if it means losing a few orders. However, we do render some small discounts.
The industry has been performing poorly for the last one and half year. Even today, [without any hesitation] I can say that the rates have picked up but not the demand. I don´t expect the industry to improve at least till 2015. To foster growth, the government should focus on introducing new policies. What happens ahead depends a lot on which government comes in power and what is its agenda.
ICR is constantly in touch with cement dealers, who are the crucial, connecting link between the manufacturer and the consumer. Dealers know the pulse of market, beat by beat. So we asked them how their business was going and what were the problems they were beset with. Here is their response, in their voice.
