We have been seeing good demand due to building of dams, roads, bridges etc – Bhupendra, Proprietor, V.B. Corporation
We have been cement dealers catering to the Gujarat region from the last three-and-a-half years now. Our orders come primarily from the Rajkot and Bhavnagar area. We dispatch around 2000 tonnes of cement every month, most of which goes to government projects. We have been seeing good demand due to building of dams, roads, bridges, etc. The year 2013 showed a slight decline in demand due to rains but that was manageable. Overall now in 2014, the business is picking up again. Here in Gujarat, we are not facing much of sand shortage. Gujarat and Rajasthan are two areas where there will never be any shortage of raw materials as these areas have abundant resources. Gujarat has mega-scale plants to support the growing demand. As a result, we are able to sell the cement at 5 Rs per kg. At Rs 5-6 per kg, cement is the cheapest raw material available for the construction industry.
We are not very excited by the Budget. In my opinion, it was drafted only to bring about a feel good factor in the public forum. The industry and the manufacturing sector is not that happy about it.
