Semen Padang, a leading cement plant in Indonesia, is planning to erect a sixth plant to boost capacity. Construction of the new plant, called Indarung VI, is set to begin before the end of this year. Once completed, the plant will have a total production capacity of 3.5 million tpa, which will help the company to meet market demand. In June, PT Semen Padang began work on the construction of a 900 000 tpa cement mill in Dumai, Riau. Semen Padang is a subsidiary of state cement producer PT Semen Indonesia, has a 43.6per cent share of the domestic market. The company reported a 22.9per cent increase in net profit for the first half of this year.
