To capture local cement market share, the Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to set up a cement plant with 1,000 tonne- per- day capacity. The government will build the cement plant as public sector initiative. The plant will be set up on 12 hectares of land at the existing J&K Cements plant at Khrew in Pulwama.
The new cement plant at Khrew will fill the gap in the demand and supply of cement at the local market.
According to the preliminary survey, the requirement of cement in the state is about 30 lakh tonne per year, against the installed capacity of about 15 lakh tonne annually with an average growth rate of ten per cent per annum. This clearly indicates that additional capacity must be installed to support the growing demands.
