The government’s decision to set up a cement packing godown in Kollam port, in Kerala, has been vehemently opposed by the Coastal Protection Council. The government’s plan to set up the godown was included in the comprehensive Kollam port development project.
The Council members on December 31 in Kollam alleged that the master plan was finalised without considering health hazards to the people. They added that the godown would also affect the functioning of the traditional fishing harbour in Thankassery.
The council members also warned to protest against the setting up of the godown as it would cause serious health hazards to people.
