The European Commission will examine the recent acquisition of Holcim´s cement operations in Spain by Cemex, based on a request by Spanish authorities. Cemex, a Mexican cement Swiss producer and multinational cement maker Holcim, announced plans to swap assets in Europe to combine all their cement, ready-mix and aggregates operations. Cemex intends to acquire all of Holcim´s assets.
The commission is concerned that the planned acquisition the transaction may affect competition within Spain. The authority will assess the potential cross-border effects of the transaction. The commission will come to a conclusion by 10 March 2014.
