As demand remained muted even in the traditionally peak season cement prices are likely to start declining from early May, much before the advent of monsoon. Prices are likely to correct by Rs 5-10 per 50 kg bag across the country from next month, say industry experts.
According to sources in Cement Manufacturers Association, in April, cement companies had increased prices by Rs 5-10 per 50 kg bag, but the demand didn’t support the price.
So the price increase was rolled-back by the companies. Seeing the present scenario, it is unlikely that cement companies will be able to increase prices in May. Instead, they may go for a price cut of around Rs 5-10 per bag to boost sales and clear stocks before monsoon, a senior official from Cement Manufacturers Association told Financial Chronicle.
