On June 19, construction members along with the real estate industry coalition people, gathered outside the cement manufacturer’s residence at Boat Club, Chennai, protesting the hike in cement prices.
The Coalition Secretary, S Yuvraj explained the extremity of the situation by citing some examples. He explained that the price varied from being Rs 350 in Delhi to Rs 520 in Tamil Nadu. Due to the rise in the cement price, all the construction sectors of the country are getting affected badly.
He mentioned there is no such valid reason for this steep hike in the prices of cement and emphasised that cartelisation is the key reason behind price hike of the prime construction material.
On Saturday, it was decided by the South India Cement Manufacturers Association, that they would make sure that the cement will be available at a reasonable and acceptable price for the public.
