As urbanisation intensifies around the world, cement producers are looking for productivity-based solutions that minimise energy and power consumption.

FLSmidth helps producers meet the efficiency and sustainability goals by delivering energy-efficient products and process expertise within all aspects of cement production. A recent example is the supply of two OK 56-4 cement mills for Orient Cement Limited’s three million tonne per annum (MTPA) greenfield cement plant in Karnataka.

Confident that FLSmidth’s industry experience and technological know-how would best support the project’s two most critical objectives-outstanding production performance and high power efficiency-Orient Cement chose FLSmidth as their partner.

Equipment specifications
Two OK 56-4 mills with 4,600 kW MAAG WPV gearbox equipped with a ROKSH 82 high-efficiency dynamic separator produces a guaranteed capacity of OPC 250 tph at 3,000 Blaine and PPC 265 tph at 4,000 Blaine.

The system specific power consumption shown in the table includes all drives from raw material weigh feeders till cement silo feed bucket elevator (including bucket elevator) excluding utilities. In addition, grinding aid and fly ash has been added as per contractual requirements.

Shyam Asawa, Head – Projects at Orient Cement Ltd, explains his choice of the OK mill system. He says, ‘The OK mill system is the best choice for cement grinding application with the lowest power consumption in the market. Orient Cement chose FLSmidth as its partner for the supply of two OK mills for cement grinding because of two key merits of the system – highest efficiency in terms of power consumption and proven reliability. FLSmidth’s OK mill has proven itself with its performance and commendable results. Furthermore, the OK mill has the flexibility for grinding PPC, OPC and PSC.’

A winning approach
Janardhanan Ananthakrishnan, Regional Product Line Manager of VRMs at FLSmidth, comments: ‘Comparing references from various existing VRMs in the Indian market, the specific power consumption of the system at 22.92 Kwh/t achieved with FLSmidth’s OK mill for PPC grinding application at Orient Cement Limited is the lowest, making it an industry benchmark for highest efficiency in cement grinding.? FLSmidth continuously upgrades its technology, process knowledge and expertise to provide full lifecycle support that enhances customers’productivity and helps them to manage risk and environmental impact.
