The All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers’ Association has said in a statement issued from Lahore that the country’s cement sales came in at 3.576 million tonnes (MT) in April. Exports fell drastically by 50.75 per cent, compared to shipments in the comparable year-ago period.
The statement added that Pakistan’s cement industry had sold a "record" 33.88 million tons of cement in the first 10 months of the current financial year. While domestic consumption stood at 29.871 MT, exports were a trickle at 4 MT.
A spokesperson for the APCMA said that the "resilience" in the domestic market for cement was a "good omen" for the industry, but it would be "unwise to ignore" the sharp decline in exports.
