The Mandalay Region government has ordered the cement factories in Kyaukse and Thazi townships to install air-testing devices.
The Environmental Conservation Department conducted an investigation on cement factories’ fumes in February and instructed the factories to install two devices, gas and ambient analysers, by the end of March.
"I’ve reported the cement factories in Kyaukse to the government after the investigations. The Mandalay Region minister for natural resources, forestry and environmental conservation also announced that the owners had to install air-testing devices by the end of this month," said Ko Ko Lay, director of the Environmental Conservation Department.
The gas analyser is for the fumes from the chimneys, and the ambient analyser is to test the quality of the surrounding air.
