Despite the tensions between the two countries, India reportedly imported twice the amount of cement amid tensions in September from Pakistan than past months. The All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association stated that import of cement has surpassed local consumption. In the first three months of the fiscal year 2016-17, cement consumption rose 8.3 per cent than that of the previous year. At least 90 lakh tonne cement was exported in the July-September period.
In the past month, import of cement increased by 12 per cent taking the total to 5.23 lakh tonne out of which 2.28 lakh tonne went to Afghanistan and 1.20 lakh tonne went to India.
