UGANDA: Hima Cement is to construct a new 0.9 MT grinding plant in Tororo in eastern Uganda, according to the country?s Observer newspaper.
The plant, which is to cost $40 million, will be built close to that of rival firm Tororo Cement?s own factory. Hima?s move follows the announcement that it has signed a deal with Guangzhou Dongsong Energy Group to supply the latter with cement to build a steel plant and a phosphate plant in the Tororo region. Daniel Pettersson, Hima?s Chief Executive Officer said: "We are embarking on several capacity-building projects starting with the construction of a grinding station at the end of 2016; we are in final stages of exploration of limestone positions in northeastern Uganda to support clinker position.
"Uganda will become an oil-producing country by 2020/2021, and this will boost economic growth and construction growth in the country."
