CII Trichy Zone organised a one-day conference on ?Energy Efficient Technologies in the Cement and Manufacturing Sector?.
In its efforts to promote sustainable development of the cement and manufacturing sector, and to demonstrate that ?green? makes good business sense, CII Trichy Zone organised the second edition of a one-day ?Energy Conference 2016? on 30th September 2016 at Hotel Sangam, Trichy.
The opening remarks were presented by S Sampath, Chairman, CII Trichy Zone, and the special address was presented by RA Krishna Kumar, Vice Chairman, Trichy Zone & Executive Director, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd and Ulhas Parlikar, Dy Head, Geocycle India. Closing remarks were presented by R Anbarasu, Vice Chairman, Trichy Zone and Deputy General Manager, HR, SRF Ltd.

The conference was organised with a focus on ?Energy Efficient Technologies in the Cement and Manufacturing Sector?.
The session topics included:
- Emerging trends in cement process technology
- Energy efficiency & AFR – recent policy developments
- Efficiency improvement in electrical and utilities
- Towards a green cement industry – challenges and opportunities.
During the meet, the cement industry recognised that the cement manufacturing process is resource and energy intensive, with the potential to create a substantial environment footprint. It has long been recognised that energy efficiency can and should play a major role in the drive to achieve a more sustainable energy system, was the consensus.
The audience included:
- Heads/managers of companies, including small and medium enterprises
- Operation & maintenance managers
- Energy auditors and engineers
- Representatives from engineering departments, production departments and quality control managers from various industries.
The conference explored various technologies which can save electrical and thermal energy during the production of cement. This is a critical subject, as around 40 per cent of the cost of cement goes towards meeting power needs.
The conference also explored various ways to use renewable energy, industrial waste and municipal waste for heating during the cement manufacturing process. More than 90 participants from all over Tamil Nadu took part in the event. There was participation also from students and faculty members from various colleges.
