The Assam Real Estate and Infrastructure Developers Association (AREIDA) has expressed concern over cement companies’ recent proposal to hike cement prices and termed the decision "unreasonable".
Following intervention by Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, the companies decided to roll back the hike. However, AREIDA said it would still approach the Competition Commission of India on the matter. The real estate body thanked Sonowal for his intervention and requested the state government to keep a close watch on the companies.
"The price of cement in Assam and other parts of the northeast is already the highest in the country despite the fact that local cement companies get numerous subsidies under the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy," said AREIDA President PK Sharma.
