The Association of Consultant Civil Engineers in Karnataka has urged the government to introduce a uniform policy to control the price of cement and sand. In a memorandum submitted to Deputy Commissioner P Rajendra Cholan, association president Vijayendra Patil said construction works were hit owing to the increasing prices of sand and cement. The Dharwad district did not have any natural source for sand and the district was dependent on the neighbouring Gadag and Haveri districts for its supply. But the district administration?s ban on the entry of sand from other district had worsened the situation.

The cement price too was higher compared with those in other states. The construction industry would be affected if the cement and sand prices were not controlled, the association said.
