Birla to acquire 2 cements plants of Lafarge

On August 17, 2015, Birla Corporation Ltd, the flagship company of M.P. Birla Group, has declared its decision to acquire two of the eastern cement plants of Lafarge India Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lafarge S.A. for an aggregate consideration of Rs 50,000 million, subject to the approval of the Competition Commission of India. The two plants together have a capacity of 5.15 mtpa.
One of the two units Jojobera, is a grinding plant and the other at Sonadih is an integrated plant with the capacity of 3.1 mtpa. This acquisition is a part of the conditions laid down by the Competition Commission of India for the global merger between Lafarge and Holcim. Post completion of the transaction, LafargeHolcim, the world?s largest cement company will have capacity of 65 Million tonnes per annum in India through its subsidiaries ACC and Ambuja. It will also have aggregates & RMC businesses of ACC and LIPL.
