Yanbu Cement Company (YCC) has signed a $61.8 million contract with Sinoma Energy Conservation Ltd to set up a 34 MW Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) system at its 8.5 mt/year capacity cement plant near Yanbu. Once operational by the end of 2016, this WHR system will be one of the largest of its kind at a cement plant in the world and the largest in Saudi Arabia. This WHR system will result in substantial savings in terms of fuel dependence for power generation from the diesel power station. Carbon emissions at the plant will be reduced by more than 100,000 tonne/year. About 25 per cent of YCC?s energy requirement will be met from the WHR system.
