IIT Madras in association with Indian Concrete Institute has organised ‘National Concrete Canoe Competition’ at the IIT campus this year. This canoe competition is one of its kind event and probably the first time in the country.
For this competition, each of the participating teams need to build their own canoe using concrete and ensure it remains sturdy, light in the water. This would mean providing students with a practical application of the engineering principles they learnt in class and challenging the student’s knowledge, creativity and stamina, while showcasing the versatility and durability of concrete as a building material. It demands meticulous planning, studying of various elements and innovation. Hence to assist them in the arduous task, CHRYSO India is mentoring the IIT Bombay students on the effective use of additive admixtures to enhance the durability and quality of the cement. Ad mixtures can be effectively used to change the nature and quality of concrete as per the desired application.
