Ambuja Cement and NSDC join hands to train over one lakh people across 14 locations in India.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi?s vision of ?Skill India?, Ambuja Cement has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to train over a lakh people across 14 locations in the country. According to the agreement, the training will be delivered by Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Institute (SEDI), under the Ambuja Cement Foundation (ACF) in 12 high growth sectors wherein 75 per cent of the successfully trained candidates will be guaranteed employment.

On this development, Pearl Tiwari, CEO, ACF, said, ?We have always tried our best to be part of India?s growth story and contribute in the best possible way. Committing ourselves to the skill development agenda of the country is a way of investing back into the nation?s resources. We are proud of this engagement and we ensure that this will be a value add to several youth who become a part of this program and will also help them get jobs of great respect.?

Set up in 1993, ACF was formed as the CSR arm of Ambuja Cement and actively involved in bridging the social divide; and over the years, transformed the rural landscape with its many innovations in the health and education sectors. The team of experts based at ACF along with SEDI have trained thousands of students from lower and middle income families. They also impart soft skills to students including computer skills, English speaking and personality development and on-the-job training, thereby improving standard of living and quality of life of the rural population.

With the ?Skill India? initiative, both organisations have decided to upgrade their training programmes to ensure demand and supply needed at various levels in the industry. ACF and SEDI have in fact identified the need for industry personnel in the following sectors viz, Automobile, Beauty Culture, Computer Training, Construction, Carpentry, Driving, Electrical, Fitter & Welder, Garment Making, Hospitality, Retail and Security.

Commenting on the partnership, Dilip Chenoy, Managing Director & CEO, NSDC, said, ?It?s a delight to see how major companies like Ambuja Cement are coming forward and contributing to the skills landscape. We need private companies to extend infrastructure and training support for skill development. The credibility of the group and the work that SEDI is doing will bring extensive support to our skills programme.? Training will be conducted across 14 locations where Ambuja has its presence. These include Bhatpara (Chhattisgarh), Chandrapur (Maharashtra), Panvel (Maharashtra), Chindwara (Madhya Pradesh), Chirawa (Rajasthan), Mundwa (Rajasthan), Dadri (Uttar Pradesh), Sankrail (West Bengal), Farakka (West Bengal), Roorkee (Uttarakhand), Kodinar (Gujarat), Gandhinagar (Gujarat), Jaitaran (Rajasthan) and Darlaghat (Himachal Pradesh).

Over the years, students and adults trained by SEDI have already been placed in large corporate houses which include Ambuja Cements Ltd., HP Energy Pvt Ltd, Cosmo Fertilizers, Bharat Motors and SBR Marketing, among others. And now with this initiative, the employment generation will truly be manifold.

It is pretty evident that this initiative will help (rural) youth equip themselves with skills that will enhance their employability and also find jobs of their choice or find ways of self-employment. Nevertheless, ACF has stayed true to its commitment of employment generation and the ?Skill India? initiative will definitely be a game changer.
