The first of its kind national technical seminar on modern construction chemicals and systems for construction industry provided a platform for the industry and academia to join hands to achieve the common goal. A report…
Department of Civil Engineering, IIT – Bombay in association with Chryso India, organized a one-day national technical seminar on Modern Construction Chemicals and systems for Construction Industry on March 20, 2015, at IIT – Bombay.
The technical seminar focused on Challenges in pumping of concrete, Supplementary additives in cement manufacturing, and Repairs and rehabilitation and high-end waterproofing. Dr. Prakash Nanthagopalan, Assistant Professor ? Department of Civil Engineering, IIT – Bombay, presented a paper on pumping and rheology of concrete, focusing on the challenges of pumping in high rise buildings. He elaborated on rheology and how does it help in pumping concrete. In his concluding remark Dr Nanthagopalan said, ?If you could place concrete properly, pumping will be easier. There can be a lot of blockages, bursting, stress etc while pumping concrete, all these can be minimised if you have a properly designed concrete in terms of rheology.?
Anuj Maheshwari, Vice President – Procurement, Reliance Industries, elaborated on the types of concrete pumps available for various types and heights of pumping concrete. He also described on the concrete mix designs that would help various concrete pumping needs.
Philippe Ortega, Vice Technical Director, Chryso SAS, France, explained the different admixture tools comprising the new technology introduced by Chryso: the Chryso RoVer technology as well as the complementary products, which help the concrete producer to manage raw material and rheological disorder to aim a better quality and performance for pumped concrete. Dr Shashank Bishnoi, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT – Delhi, elaborated on role of adding fly ash in cement concrete. He discussed on the type of fly ash, reactivity, how it helps in adding value to cement and concrete.
Prof Ashok Tiwari, Vice President – Concrete Research, UltraTech Cement, gave a broad view on the global cement industry and the industry in India, its concerns in terms of products in the market. He said, ?Both manufacturers and users want new products, or products with a different value proposition. We need a lot more solutions and we need to move forward from the traditional grinding aids to speciality products which are compatible.?
Laurent Guillot, Cement BU Technical Director, Chryso Group, discussed on Additives for supplementary materials in cement manufacturing. He said, ?In order to achieve the optimum balance between grinding performance and strength, interactions between cement additives, grinding process and the materials being ground have to be mastered. This know-how is key to achieving high levels of performance.?
KV Chandrashekhar, AGM – Sales-South India, Construction Systems, Chryso India, highlighted the usage of new generation chemicals and techniques for providing long term repair solutions to various civil engineering structures like industrial buildings, chimneys, dams, bridges, etc, wile Dr Gopal Rai, CEO, R&M International, discussed on construction systems.
Giles Everitt, Managing Director, Chryso India, delivered vote of thanks. The seminar helped in building awareness about modern way of using construction chemicals and benefits.
