Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation will begin construction on the 33 km first underground Metro line in the city by March 2016. The company, owned by the Government of India and Government of Maharashtra, is aiming to finalise EPC contractors for the more than Rs 23,000-crore project by the end of 2015. The company has shortlisted nine consortia including Afcons Infrastructure, Tata Projects,
IL&FS Engineering and Construction, J Kumar Infraprojects, and Larsen & Toubro.
