Tamil Nadu government is planning to offer cement at highly subsidised rate to common public for building houses. Industries Minister, P Thangamani, held discussions with cement producers, including the representatives from India Cements and Madras Cements to discuss procurement plans. About 200,000 tonnes of the cement, popularly known as Amma Cement since the former Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa (Amma), had led this initiative, will be procured from private companies every month. The cement will benefit those building 100-sq.ft home, who will be eligible for 50 bags, while those building 1,500-sqft sized house will get 750 bags.
