Typically, spending on fuels accounts for more than 30 per cent of cement production costs. Cement companies all over the world ar looking at ways to reduce this cost. New entrant Derba Midroc Cement will be charging its kilns with imported coal along with heavy fuel oils. That will reduce the units? dependence on a single fuel source. In Ethiopia fuels are primarily imported from nearby via Djibouti and transported to the country?s cement factories.
