As a corporate citizen, Zuari Cement is acutely aware of its responsibilities towards the neighbouring communities. As part of this responsibility, and in an effort to strengthen its relationship with the villages around the factory, the company has undertaken and carried out many initiatives.

Sustainability being the key focus, of all Italcementi Group?s companies? world-wide, Zuari Cement continues its role of a responsible corporate citizen by following the sustainable approach, focusing on the environment, economical, safety and social aspects of our employees and stakeholders. The company has spearheaded many initiatives to support the community, especially around our manufacturing units.

In line with Italcementi Group?s sustainable policy, Zuari Cement has always put in efforts towards community welfare with key focus on health, education, youth empowerment and building village infrastructure, as these are amongst the basic necessities. Zuari Cement has worked towards empowering the entire community with initiatives focused on making the communities self reliant and independent in both social and economical terms.

We believe in structuring the future and shaping young minds in their nascent years; cementing a path way for a better tomorrow. With these thoughts, Zuari Cement invested in education infrastructure as early as 1987.

Our Vishnu school at Sitapuram works started in 1987, later in 2010 we upgraded the facility and constructed a school for students up to Class X at a cost of Rs 15 million with a vision to provide quality education to the children of nearby villages and those of our employees.

Also, in the year 2008, our school at Yerraguntla Works made collaboration with the DAV (Dayanad Arya Vedic Samaj) group for the school administration. The DAV Model School started with a modest strength of 73 students with classes up to 5th standard, and we are proud to recount that year-on-year as part of our CSR initiative additional class and facilities have been added.

Zuari Cement?s Vishnu and DAV Model School today makes education available up to Class X (Matriculation) in the towns of Sitapuram and Yerraguntla. Our current total strength of students is above 1000 (with 77 per cent children from the nearby villages).

As part of our ?support to communities?, we have also been a constant support to five schools in the vicinity of our Chennai manufacturing unit, belonging to the Attipattu village panchayat. Total of 963 students from these five schools receive the benefit of school uniforms, books and bags every year.

It is a pleasure to report that our DAV school students added a feather to our cap with their exemplary performance in academics. All our students (19 in total) who appeared in the Xth standard board exams have passed with an average CGPA of 8.9 and our school is ranked first among the 16 DAV run schools in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Health & Safety well being of our employees and the community has always been our strength towards development. Observing rising health concerns, we brought in specialty camps to address chronic and communicable diseases.

Zuari Cement organised a HIV Screening Program, bringing medical facilities closer to the transport staff, especially the truck drivers. A team of from Andhra Pradesh State Aids Control Society (APSACS) conducted the tests and provided counselling sessions.

Specialty Medical Camps were organised to address health concerns relating to Cardiology, Neurology and Orthopedics in association with the local medical teams. Medical test equipments helped facilitate medical counsel to the villagers and employees.

Caring for the eye of children, eye check-up camps were organised in co-ordination with Sankara Eye Hospital, Guntur. Children in need of lens and spectacles were provided with the same.

Zuari Cement has worked towards empowering the entire community with initiatives focused on making the communities self reliant and independent in social aspects.
