Based on the government?s plans to spend on major infrastructure projects with a special focus on constructing highways and hydropower and housing projects, Cherat Cement is expecting significant rise in cement demand in the near future. Improvement in political situation in Afghanistan may also give a boost to the reconstruction activities in that country.

To tap the opportunity, Cherat Cement is investing around Rs12 billion to install a new production plant at Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The plant would be acquired from Tianjin Cement Industry Design and Research Institute, a company based in China. The new plant will have a production capacity of over 1.3 million tonnes per annum and will be commissioned in 30 months, Abid A Vazir, Executive Director of the company, said.
