India Cements will be spending Rs 80 crore to refurbish its old plant at Salem in Tamil Nadu. With this upgrade the plant capacity will be pumped up from the current 6 lakh tonne/year to 17 lakh tonne/year. The company will optimise the existing kiln and add a new line. The new capacity will require 28 MW of power, including about 13 MW for the new line. This will be sourced from group captive sources or from the grid. India Cements is only waiting for environmental clearance to be granted. Once the clearances are in place the project work will commence.
