Zuari Cement, part of the worldwide Italcementi Group, is setting up a port based cement packing terminal with 1 million tonne capacity cement per annum. The 15 million euros unit to be set up at Kochi Port Trust, Ernakulam, Kerala will be India’s largest unit of its kind. The unit expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2015.

The ground-breaking ceremony was held on 22 April 2014. The ceremony was attended by Roberto Callieri (Zone Director for the group), Nabil Francis (Managing Director Zuari Cement), Krishna Srivastava (Wholetime Director), Ramesh Suryanarayana (Director Business Development), Srinivasan Sundaram (Sr. VP – Projects), Jacob Mathew (Head – Image and Communication) and other senior executives of Zuari Cement.

The plant will help Zuari Cement’s market expand in southern India and facilitate exports. The port will allow the company to tap both waterways along with land routes to distribute its products.

Zuari cement is also developing a project of 3 million ton per year cement plant in North Karnataka and a large grinding unit is also being erected at Sholapur in Maharashtra.
