ACC is investing Rs 3,000 crore for expanding its capacity in the eastern region. The company will be modernising the Jamul plant in Chattisgarh and adding 1.5 million tonne grinding unit in Jharkhand.

"We will decommission the existing plant of Jamul and install the world’s best technology based four million tonne cement plant here. Another 1.5 million tonne grinding unit had also been finalised at Sindri, Jharkhand," said ACC director (sales) C Kurian. Both the plants would be commissioned by the second quarter of 2015, Kurian added.

ACC, which is now a part of Holcim group, has six plants in eastern region with six million tonne capacity and has captured market share of 12 per cent with sales of 5.6 million tonne in this region. The company plans to hike the capacity to 10 million tonne by 2016. The upgrade will also implement better packing and transit systems to save 200-300 gm of cement loss per bag in transit.
